Two decades of watching a city change
For more than two decades, Jamille Kelly has called Austin home. Originally from Longview, Texas, Kelly moved to the city in 1999 after transferring from Prairie View A&M University with plans to pursue a track scholarship. What began as a move for education eventually became the foundation for a career rooted in entrepreneurship, investment, and community impact.
Over the years, Kelly has witnessed Austin transform dramatically. Neighborhoods have evolved, property values have surged, and the city's growth has brought both opportunity and challenges for residents and entrepreneurs alike.
Today, through his company Legacy REI, Kelly has positioned himself as a trusted resource for residential and commercial real estate projects across the Austin area. But for Kelly, real estate has always represented something larger than property transactions. "It's about building a legacy," he explains.
Real estate as a path to generational wealth
Kelly's passion for real estate is rooted in its long-term potential. Over time, he has built experience in multiple areas of the industry, from residential projects to commercial development and investment partnerships.
Through Legacy REI, Kelly works with clients and partners in several ways, including investment opportunities, real estate consultations, mentorship for new investors, and general contracting services. Rather than simply focusing on profits, Kelly emphasizes education and strategic decision-making.

Know the lease before you sign it
One area where Kelly frequently provides insight is commercial leasing. He has seen firsthand how entrepreneurs, particularly new business owners, can unknowingly sign unfavorable lease agreements or construction contracts that put their businesses at risk.
By helping clients understand build-out costs, lease negotiations, and property potential, Kelly aims to equip them with the knowledge needed to make smarter decisions.
Serving beyond the business
While Legacy REI continues to grow, Kelly has also become more intentional about how he shows up for the community. He uses his construction experience to assist individuals who may not have the financial resources to complete necessary home improvements or accessibility modifications.
"I try to help where I can," he says. "Sometimes people just need guidance or someone willing to point them in the right direction."
Expanding the vision
Looking ahead, Kelly plans to continue expanding Legacy REI's footprint, particularly in commercial development. Commercial projects, he explains, provide opportunities to create infrastructure that supports businesses and communities alike. Strategic partnerships will play a key role in that growth.
"There's only so much you can do on your own," Kelly says. "The right partnerships allow you to scale faster and take on projects that can have a bigger impact."
At the same time, Kelly remains committed to maintaining a steady pipeline of residential projects, remodels, and investment opportunities that continue to fuel the company's success.
