Meet The Macks: The Heart and Soul Behind TaterQue

TaterQue, the Pflugerville-based restaurant, stands as a beacon of love, community, and resilience, driven by the dynamic duo Bobby and Bobbie Mack. Their journey into the world of food began as a shared vision to create something that wasn't just about serving great meals, but about creating a community space where people could come together and feel at home.

Turning passion into purpose

The Macks, both originally from Austin, Texas, started TaterQue in 2016 with the simple idea that food could bring people closer. Bobby's idea for the restaurant sparked while sitting with fellow welders at lunch, wishing there was a well-loaded stuffed potato to satisfy his hunger.

Life delayed the Macks' dream of opening the restaurant until 2020, when they decided to take the leap and start with a food truck amid the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the odds, the food truck became a hit, quickly gaining a loyal following. In January 2023, they opened their first brick-and-mortar location on FM 685 in Pflugerville, a testament to their perseverance and hard work.

However, like any business, their journey was far from easy. Navigating the challenges of working with contractors and the complexities of the permitting process delayed their opening, but the Macks' resilience and dedication carried them through.

"There were several obstacles we had to overcome, and we continue to learn as we go."

— Bobbie Mack

More than a restaurant

Despite these challenges, Bobby and Bobbie have built more than just a restaurant — they've created a community hub where every visitor feels like family. Walk into TaterQue, and you'll instantly feel the warmth and love the Macks pour into their business.

Bobbie's radiant smile makes patrons feel like they've just reunited with a long-lost family member, while Bobby's wisdom and heart make him a trusted mentor in the community. One patron shared that after a deep, thought-provoking conversation with Bobby, her husband was inspired to strengthen his faith, dive deeper into the Word of God, and become more grounded in his purpose. That is the kind of transformative power the Macks bring to TaterQue every day.

TaterQue has become a cornerstone of the local community. The Macks regularly support local events and offer their space for meetups and activities. It's not uncommon to see young people working their first jobs at TaterQue, gaining not only work experience but also invaluable life lessons from the Macks' mentorship. Their restaurant serves as a safe space for the youth — an environment filled with wisdom, guidance, and love.

"TaterQue has become more than just a restaurant, it's a cornerstone of the local community."

What's next

Looking forward, the Macks have even bigger plans. They're working on launching their own line of seasonings and developing a reality show that will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the love, passion, and dedication that goes into running the restaurant. Through these ventures, they hope to continue spreading their message of love, family, and community.

Ultimately, TaterQue is much more than a restaurant. It's a place where food, faith, family, and community intersect, creating a space filled with love, support, and the spirit of togetherness. Through their dedication and hard work, Bobby and Bobbie Mack have turned their dream into a reality, building a legacy that will impact their community for years to come.
